BJP questions free electricity, LPG cylinders, jobs and regularisation of daily wagers
Srinagar, Oct 16: BJP J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur on Friday slammed the Omar Abdullah-led government over what he termed the non-fulfilment of key electoral promises, demanding accountability and a time-bound roadmap for delivering on commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Thakur was joined by BJP J&K spokespersons Munzoor Bhat, Sahil Bashir and Danish Bhat, who also questioned the government over promises of 200 units of free electricity, 12 free LPG cylinders for eligible families, one lakh jobs, regularisation of daily wagers and relief for ration consumers.
“Where are the 200 units of free electricity promised to households? Where are the 12 free LPG cylinders for eligible families? Where are the promised one lakh jobs? The government must answer these questions and explain why people are still waiting for the relief they were promised,” Thakur said.
Thakur seeks two-year report card, says Article 370 a closed chapter
Thakur further questioned the government over rising electricity bills and the lack of visible economic relief for ordinary families, urging it to explain what concrete benefits had reached people under its election commitments.
On the issue of statehood and Article 370, Thakur maintained that statehood would be restored through the constitutional process, but Article 370, abrogated in August 2019, remained a closed chapter.
“Statehood will come through the constitutional process, but Article 370 stands buried. The government must stop evading questions on its promises and focus on governance, development and the issues affecting people’s daily lives,” he said.
Thakur said the Omar Abdullah government should publish a comprehensive two-year performance report card, listing the promises fulfilled, those still pending and a definite timeline for implementing the remaining commitments.
He said people deserved answers rather than political assurances, adding that employment, public services, economic relief and workers’ welfare should remain the government’s priorities.
The BJP leaders said the National Conference had sought a public mandate on a series of promises and must now explain the progress made on each of them.
Thakur reiterated that the government must provide a clear account of its performance and fulfil the commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
