A bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims overturned and plunged into a gorge at the S-Mode stretch in the Hariganiwan area of Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, leaving dozens pilgrims injured, police said.Gund Police, led by the station house officer (SHO), launched an immediate rescue operation with support from paramilitary units including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the CRPF’s 118 Battalion, 2 Assam Rifles, and the 21 Rashtriya Rifles, along with Yatra police teams and local residents. Emergency teams evacuated all injured pilgrims from the accident site and rushed them to nearby hospitals for treatment.First responders provided on-site medical aid before transfer to district health facilities. There were no immediate reports of fatalities; authorities described several injuries of varying severity and said further medical assessments are under way. The identities of the injured and the exact number taken to hospitals are being confirmed.Police have cordoned off the site and are conducting an inquiry to determine the cause of the accident. Yatra officials and local administration are coordinating relief and transport arrangements for other pilgrims in the area, the statement added.
