Badalta J&K: Rs 1.5 lakh crore infrastructure dev program under execution in J&K

JAMMU, OCT 16: Under the dynamic leadership of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Jammu and Kashmir has embarked on a transformative journey. The massive infrastructure development program, with projects worth Rs 1.5 lakh crores, is breathing new life into the Union Territory.

This massive development program is aligned with the vision of Aatm-Nirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since the scrapping of Article 370 in 2019, especially during the last three years, the emphasis has been on creating a modern and well-connected infrastructure base. Jammu and Kashmir is poised to play a significant role in India’s economic growth and development.

At the core of this infrastructure transformation projects were initiated under the Prime Minister Development Programme (PMDP). These projects are set to enhance connectivity within the Union Territory and with the rest of India, opening up new opportunities for trade and tourism. The road networks will not only make transportation more efficient but also facilitate the easy movement of people, goods, and services.

As per the data, the Jammu and Kashmir government is spending an impressive Rs. 519 crores per month on various projects, including road construction, building infrastructure, macadamization, and the construction of rural bridges. This financial commitment reflects the government’s dedication to making Jammu and Kashmir more self-reliant and prosperous.

From road projects to tunnels, flyovers, bypasses, and ring roads, a comprehensive plan is laying the foundation for a modern, self-reliant, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the officials, the J&K administration with liberal financial help from the Central government is currently executing infrastructure projects worth a staggering Rs. 1.5 lakh crores across the 20 districts of the Union Territory. This grand vision aims to address long-standing issues related to connectivity, economic development, and the well-being of the region’s residents.

In addition to road projects, the region is witnessing the construction of 21 new tunnels. These tunnels will traverse the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir, reducing travel times and enhancing safety for residents and tourists. The construction of these tunnels demonstrates a commitment to infrastructure development that extends beyond the plains and into the mountains.

To ensure seamless urban mobility, 39 new flyovers are being constructed. These elevated roadways will reduce traffic congestion, improve transit times, and enhance the quality of life for residents in Jammu and Kashmir’s urban centres. Two new ring roads will further enhance connectivity within the Union Territory. These circular routes will link various parts of the region, streamlining transportation and logistics. Such well-planned ring roads are crucial for economic growth and development.
