Baramulla July 31: As part of its efforts to enhance awareness and sensitivity among its personnel on crucial health and legal matters, Baramulla Police in collaboration with J&K AIDS control society organized an awareness-cum-training programme on HIV/AIDS, the HIV and AIDS (prevention and control) act, 2017, and drug de-addiction at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla. The programme witnessed the participation of 50 police personnel from different units across the district. The initiative aimed to equip officers with updated knowledge to better handle health-related challenges and contribute to rehabilitation efforts within the community.
The event was graced by Shri Maqsood-ul-Zamaan-IPS, DIG NKR Baramulla, as the special guest, alongside other dignitaries including Shri Gurinderpal Singh-IPS, SSP Baramulla, Shri Hariprasad KK -IPS, Addl. SP Baramulla, Shri Feroz Yahya-JKPS, SP Ops Baramulla and Mr. Mohd Ashraf, PDDC Baramulla. Expert resource persons from the J&K AIDS control society, Ms. Sabiha Iqbal assistant director, mainstreaming and Mr. Imtiyaz Khan assistant director, Lab services, delivered informative sessions on modes of HIV transmission, methods of prevention, legal rights of people living with HIV, and the responsibilities of law enforcement under the HIV Act 2017.
The speakers also discussed the role of police in promoting community awareness, reducing social stigma and collaborating with health and welfare departments for effective drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation. All dignitaries emphasized the importance of compassion, knowledge and inter-agency coordination in tackling such social and public health issues.
