Awantipora, September 10: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir UT President Sat Sharma, along with BJP senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Sunil Sharma, Vice President Dr Shanawaz Ganaie, BJP General Secretaries Anwar Khan, Gopal Mahajan District President Pulwama Er. Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi, Sajad Raina and other party leaders, visited the flood-affected area Padgampora, Wandekpora, Hanjipora and Goripora areas of Awantipora Tehsil in Pulwama district.
The purpose of the visit was to take a firsthand account of the losses caused by recent incessant rains and floods.
During the visit, the BJP leaders interacted with the affected families, farmers and listened to their problems, assuring them of timely relief and restoration measures.
Speaking to Morning Kashmir, BJP District President Pulwama Er. Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi stated that today, UT President Sat Sharma, senior leader Sunil Sharma visited many areas of Awantipora along with several senior BJP leaders. He said that they are inspecting the places affected by the flood to identify which areas suffered damage and which locations have been most impacted. He further assured that efforts will be made to provide full assistance to all the affected areas.
Speaking to the media, Sat Sharma stated that today, along with party leaders, we visited Padgampora, Hanipora, and Guripora. We tried to go among the people and assess if there has been any damage to their homes. Although the local administration’s efforts regarding the loss calculation are ongoing, the lumberdar brought to our notice that the loss assessment has already been carried out, the reports have been prepared, and the files have been submitted for further processing.
He said that last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji visited Jammu, but due to bad weather, he had to return from Jammu without proceeding further. Although he wished to visit Kashmir as well, today our entire team has come to Awantipora areas. We have seen that there has been significant damage to the crops, and in all the areas we visited, we discussed the road connectivity issues. The roads are in poor condition, and when water accumulates during the rainy season, it becomes very difficult for people to move in and out.
This evening, LOP Sunil Sharma will also meet the LG Sahab. I would like to emphasize that the people here should not face any problems, especially during the rainy days. The Bharatiya Janata Party wants such visits to happen at the earliest. Previously, during the Kishtwar incident, LOP Sunil Sharma Ji stayed at the spot continuously for 12 days, living among the people. Many casualties occurred there. A special compensation will be provided to the affected people of the region.
