Buzz in sports, entertainment & business infuse new life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 28: With the return of normalcy, Kashmir is experiencing resurgence in sports, business, and entertainment activities, bringing newfound amusement and joy to the people of the valley.
Shops and other establishments now remain open late into the evening, with locals enthusiastically participating in various forms of entertainment.

“Not long ago, the fear and threat that used to come with sunset have disappeared,” said Ali Mohammad, a shopkeeper in Lal Chowk, highlighting the positive changes.
One of the most notable aspects of this revival is the growing involvement of Kashmiri youth in sports. Across the valley, cricket and football tournaments are taking place in almost every district. “It’s heartening to see so many young people engaging in sports. I believe the frequency of these events should increase in the future,” said Mohammad Adnan, a cricketer.
Among the significant sports events is the Khyber Red Premier League, organized by Red FM. Touted as Kashmir’s biggest cricket tournament, this event has set new standards for sports entertainment in the region. For the first time, professional-grade cricket floodlights have been installed, allowing for exhilarating night matches. Additionally, an innovative beam light show illuminated the venue, creating a visually stunning experience for attendees and marking a technological milestone in the region.
Entertainment activities are also on the rise, with numerous film shootings taking place across Kashmir. The region has seen an influx of film celebrities, thanks in part to the J&K government’s new film policy, launched by Lieutenant syGovernor Manoj Sinha in the presence of actor Aamir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. This policy aims to attract the film industry back to Kashmir and has introduced a single-window mechanism through the Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council. Filmmakers can apply online for hassle-free shooting permits and avail of various incentives offered by the administration.
“The combination of these activities is infusing new energy into the valley, helping to revive its vibrant cultural and social life,” a senior government official said.
