Khanna thanked the central government for fulfilling his demand and said the facility will help deaf and dumb people in emergencies.
Hoshiarpur: Former MP Avinash Rai Khanna said that due to their inability to speak and listen, deaf and dumb people are not able to share their problems with anyone. Khanna said that although the government has established a helpline number for all, but due to the unavailability of a WhatsApp-based helpline number, deaf and dumb people are not able to express their concern and can seek solutions without someone’s help.
Khanna said that he initiated this quest for getting a WhatsApp-based helpline number for deaf and dumb people from the central government.
They can operate a WhatsApp-based helpline independently and may seek help on their own in an emergency.
Khanna has been raising this issue for a long time, and he has written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of Social Welfare, and Chairman Committee of Petition Lok Sabha.
Khanna said that finally he was informed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that the central government has established a WhatsApp-based helpline for deaf and dumb people, and they may use the number 8929667579 in case of help.
A QR code is also issued and is available on www.depwd.gov.in . Khanna said he is thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, concerning ministries and the Lok Sabha committee, for this noble work.
