Srinagar May 08: In a shocking exposé, it’s been revealed that the Registration section, in collusion with Statistical Assistant Waseem Ahmad, at the Srinagar Regional Transport Office (RTO), has manipulated 44 commercial vehicle files. These unauthorized alterations reportedly came at a steep price of Rs. 25,000 per file, amassing an eye-watering sum of eleven lakh rupees in illicit gains.
Notably, Waseem Ahmad has enjoyed patronage from higher authorities for over five years, fueling suspicions of systemic corruption. Representatives from diverse transport companies have stepped forward, decrying the prevalence of such fraudulent practices within the RTO, facilitated by a nefarious alliance between officials and players in the used car and tour industries.
Adding to the uproar, a local car dealer has lodged a formal complaint, alleging coercion into paying Rs. 1.5 lakhs for the renewal of a trade certificate, purportedly orchestrated through Inspector (MVI) Mohammad Younis.Outraged citizens, particularly transporters, are demanding swift action from law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and dismantle the network of corrupt officials within the Srinagar RTO. The clarion call for accountability and transparency reverberates across the region, underscoring the urgent need to root out entrenched corruption from bureaucratic corridors.
