Officers asked to address public issues effectively
SRINAGAR DEC 14: To review the performance of bureaucrats and to effectively address public concerns, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has directed officers to actively engage with the public and submit monthly reports to the Chief Secretary’s office.
“Similarly, heads of departments, such as deputy commissioners, must conduct weekly tours and conduct public hearings three days a week, specifically between 3 pm and 4 pm,” the order reads.
The heads of departments have been directed to submit monthly reports to the Chief Secretary, outlining issues raised during tours and public hearings, accompanied by potential solutions. Heads of departments have also been instructed to submit their reports to their respective departments.
A senior official said that the submission of reports is aimed at reviewing the performance of officers and ensuring effectively address public concerns.
“The Chief Secretary’s office is very serious that all public issues are addressed at the earliest. If any officer is found showing a lackadaisical approach in addressing public issues, strict action will be taken against him or her,” the official said.
The official said that the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to review the performance of bureaucrats and also instructed departments to conduct internal audits in compliance with Article 226 of the J&K Civil Service Regulations.
“Monthly progress reports, evaluation based on target completion, scheme outcomes, and project benefits will be part of the assessment. The government is addressing the impact on developmental projects due to underutilized funds and urges timely submission of project-related certificates. Those who fail to show desired results, the government has decided to take strict action against them,” the official said.
The Government has instructed all departments to conduct internal reviews or audits, emphasizing compliance with Article 226 of the J&K Civil Services Regulations.
