DLSA Budgam organizes Awareness Programme on Rights of Third Gender

BUDGAM, OCTOBER 18: In accordance with the J&K Legal Services Authority calendar of activities for the year 2024, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam today conducted a Legal Awareness programme on Rights of Third Gender.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Chairman DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Budgam and under the supervision of Secretary DLSA Budgam,

The event held in collaboration with AL-Asma educational institute Budgam, witnessed the active participation from students, teaching and non teaching staff of School, LADCs, officials and PLVs of DLSA Budgam.

The resource person Shahrukh Bhat (Deputy LADCs), thoroughly discussed the day’s topic. He briefed the audience about the rights of the third gender and emphasized upon that there is need to address the crucial issues such as gender inequality, and limited access to healthcare and education.

In his speech, he also said that there is a need for a mass awareness campaign especially in inaccessible areas of the society.

Advocate Feroz Ahmad also spoke on the occasion. Amongst other speakers, student Shah Fatima (8th), Irtiza Zehra (9th) and Seerat Khadija (10th) also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the real issues faced by the third gender in this contemporary world. They urged upon the listeners that they should consider themselves as the brand ambassadors of the programme and should raise awareness on the issues faced by the third gender at the individual level.

Principal of the institution hailed the move of DLSA Budgam for organizing such a good programme on a very good topic and visa-a-vis choosing their school as venue. In her address she said that the need of the hour is to adopt a holistic approach from all the stakeholders of the society for the protection of the rights of the third gender.
