Police refute, saying he assaulted on-duty cop, violated the law
Srinagar, Jun 25: A top Surgical Oncologist, Dr Samir Koul on Tuesday alleged that he was beaten ruthlessly by the Traffic Policemen along the Nishat Road and accused the men in uniform of showering choicest abuses.
Dr Samir Koul while speaking to the media, stated that he was beaten ruthlessly by the men in uniform while a cavalcade of Lieutenant Governor was passing near the Foreshore road Nishat.
“Unfortunately after serving the people for decades, I had to face such an assault,” he said, adding that he has filed a formal complaint at Police Station Nishat in this regard. “They stopped beating me only when a senior police officer present there interfered,” he added.
Meanwhile, the traffic police officials in an official communiqué stated that while movement of the LG (z+ protectee) was going on today, a Maruti Alto vehicle wrongfully entered the wrong tube near foreshore road Nishat.
“The vehicle was stopped by an officer on duty. When the DTI initiated a process for challaning the wrongful conduct for violation of law, the occupant of the vehicle entered into a verbal altercation with a Traffic police officer on duty and assaulted them,” the statement reads.
It added that the occupant of the vehicle who violated the law was identified as Dr Sameer Koul.
