Srinagar 9th January 2026: The Enforcement TeamARTO, Anantnag, conducted a routine inspection of passenger vehicles near Jablipora on NH-44 today at approximately 13:15 hours. During the inspection, two vehicles, JK20C9404 and JK02DR2128, were found to be in violation of the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 052 pertaining to emergency exits. Specifically, seats were installed over emergency exit doors, compromising passenger safety.
These modifications as envisaged U/S52 are in clear violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and related CMVR provisions. Consequently, both vehicles have been recommended for fitness suspension/cancellation.
The ARTO office emphasizes that compliance with emergency exit standards is critical for the safety of passengers and urges all vehicle operators to adhere strictly to AIS 052 and MV Act regulations. Non-compliance will result in strict enforcement actions.
