Kilo North Kashmir Cricket League Begins in Lolab, 101 Teams Vie for Top Honours

LOLAB, October 5: The second edition of the Kilo North Kashmir Cricket League got underway at Chandigam Cricket Ground in Lolab, marking the beginning of the decisive phase of one of North Kashmir’s major grassroots cricket competitions.

Organised by the Indian Army, the tournament has witnessed a significant expansion this year, with 101 teams from across North Kashmir participating in the league. Following the preliminary rounds, 12 teams secured their places in Phase 2, which is being played at Chandigam.

The opening match of the second phase saw Pathan Panthers Lolab take on Sabir Shahnawaz Cricket Club, Naidkhai. Pathan Panthers produced a strong all-round performance to register a convincing 62-run victory, making an impressive start to their campaign.

The tournament has also attracted considerable interest among local players, cricket enthusiasts and supporters, with the competition providing a platform for emerging cricketers from villages and remote areas to showcase their talent.

The organisers have announced attractive prizes for the top-performing teams. The champions will receive ₹2 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹1 lakh and the third-placed team ₹50,000. In addition, several other prizes, including an electric scooter, are also on offer.

With participation increasing substantially from the inaugural edition, the league is expected to provide a competitive platform for budding cricketers while strengthening the sporting culture at the grassroots level.

The tournament is also bringing together players and cricket lovers from different parts of North Kashmir, reflecting the growing popularity of the sport and the emergence of local cricket leagues as an important avenue for identifying and nurturing young talent.
