Drug addiction has been a longstanding problem in our society that deems it is the job of the police and other law enforcement agencies to curb the menace. The fact is that it is a collective responsibility. Irrespective of age, gender and economic or social status, drug addiction has affected countless lives, wreaking havoc on families and communities. It is high time that we collectively take meaningful action to address this problem. One of the most effective ways to eradicate the drug menace is to start by educating the public; especially the younger generation. The government must enact and enforce more strict laws targeting drug manufacturing, distribution, and smuggling. Border control and customs agents should be trained to identify and intercept illegal drug shipments. The programs aimed at the treatment and rehabilitation of drug users must be continued so that the victims are encouraged to quit drugs and receive medical attention. Civil society and non-governmental organizations must jointly create awareness campaigns, organize seminars and workshops and offer support and assistance to the victims, by creating safe spaces for them to seek treatment without fear of judgment or stigma. The responsibility to eradicate the drug menace rests with every member of society. By joining hands and collaborating, we can create a community that is aware, supportive, and free from the scourge of drug addiction. This is not only an ethical duty but a moral and social responsibility.
