DHSK’s ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’

With the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir kick-starting the ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ (Anaemia-free India) campaign in which it will hold screening camps, there is a need for the government to implement policies to increase iron intake. This can be achieved by fortifying foods with iron. Iron-fortified foods can be a sustainable and affordable approach to ensure people consume enough iron in their diets. Industries can be encouraged to add iron to staple foods such as flour, salt, and rice. The government can also promote the consumption of iron-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables and meat. Educating people on the importance of a balanced diet that includes iron-rich foods is essential. Another way for the government to eradicate anaemia is by addressing the root causes of the problem. Poverty, inadequate access to healthcare, and poor sanitation are some of the underlying causes of anaemia. The government can address poverty by implementing social welfare programs and providing job opportunities. Providing people with access to basic health services, such as prenatal care and iron supplements, can also help prevent anaemia. Improving sanitation and hygiene can help reduce the risk of infections that can lead to anaemia. In a nutshell, eradicating anaemia requires a comprehensive approach that involves both preventive measures and addressing its root causes. By implementing these measures, we can ensure that people have access to the necessary resources to prevent and treat the condition, ultimately improving the health and well-being of millions of people.
