PAMPORE, September 1: The Government Degree College (GDC) Pampore on Tuesday marked a significant milestone with the formal inauguration of its Skill Cell, an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between traditional education and practical, employment-oriented skills.
The Skill Cell was inaugurated by MLA Pampore Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi in the presence of Principal Dr Gazala Gayas, college staff, students, Youth District Vice President Mir Mujeeb ul Nazir and distinguished guests, officials told Morning Kashmir.
MLA Pampore, Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi congratulated the college administration, faculty and students on the establishment of the Skill Cell and termed the initiative the “need of the hour.”
Masoodi emphasized that while traditional education remains the foundation of learning, it needs to be complemented with practical skill development to prepare students for the challenges of the modern world.
He stressed that skill-based education can play an important role in enhancing employability, encouraging entrepreneurship and enabling young people to become self-reliant.
Earlier, the Principal of the college, Dr. Gazala Gayas, along with the staff and students, accorded a warm welcome to the chief guest MLA Pampore. As a gesture of appreciation for his support and encouragement, the Principal presented a memento to Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi.
Shaifta Ayoub, Convener of the Skill Cell, formally welcomed the gathering and highlighted the vision and objectives of the newly established centre.
She informed that the Skill Cell has been initiated with two foundational courses—Stitching and Tailoring and Mehndi Artistry. The courses are aimed at equipping students with practical skills that can promote self-reliance, enhance employability and create opportunities for entrepreneurship.
The event concluded with an appreciation of the college administration’s efforts towards providing students with opportunities beyond conventional academic learning.
