Dengue outbreak: Control the spread

The recent outbreak of dengue in Jammu & Kashmir has become a grave concern for the public’s health and safety. Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that has affected millions of people in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, resulting in thousands of deaths annually. In India, many states have witnessed a significant rise in the number of dengue cases. This calls for urgent measures from the government to control the spread of the disease. The mosquito that transmits dengue thrives in stagnant water, and the government has not adequately addressed the issue of waste management and cleanliness. The lack of public education has also been a significant factor in the spread of dengue. The general public is not aware of the disease’s symptoms, and they often do not take necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. The government’s response to educate the masses about the ways to avoid dengue and the importance of cleanliness has been inadequate. The government should be more proactive in controlling the spread of dengue. The first step towards this is to launch a comprehensive mosquito control programme. The authorities should take steps to clean up public spaces like parks, roads, and open drains, which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The government should also encourage people to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings. The authorities should conduct awareness programs in schools, colleges, and other public places to educate people about dengue symptoms and ways to prevent it.
