Hajin Bandipora: Government Degree College Hajin celebrated 77th Independence Day with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm.
The celebrations were held in the college campus which was attended by staff, civil administration, students, civil society members and general public. The day started with the unfurling of the national flag by the principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Zahoor Ahmad. The staff, students and general public enthusiastically participated in it.
The principal of the college in his brief speech talked about the immense sacrifice of the freedom fighters for liberating the nation from the ashes of colonial rule. He acknowledged the contribution of national heroes who led the fight for freedom with consistency, determination and persistence. They gave a wonderful gift of Independence to the nation. He termed that the true spirit of independence lies in our ability to overcome the challenges arising out of environmental degradation, poverty and other pressing issues. He stressed upon the teachers to equip students not only with knowledge but also with values that will help them to navigate an ever changing world for the betterment of the mankind.
Later, various cultural events were held in which students and three distinguished singers from District Bandipora displayed their talent on the stage. The audiences were enthralled by their unique performances. Similarly, a group of school children from the adopted village demonstrated a mock exercise on a patriotic Hindi song.
The NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Abdul Qayoom Mir along with 50 NSS Volunteers participated in the flag hoisting ceremony. The programme ended with the distribution of certificates among meritorious students who participated & performed in various events under “Meri Maate Mera Desh” and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsave Campaigns. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Falak Fayrooz Ahmad, Convener Admission Committee while as Nahida Naseem, Convener Cultural Committee and Javeed Ahmad Raina Convener Seminar and Debates Committee prepared students for various competitions.
