SRINAGAR, JAN 01: In a remarkable turn of events, Srinagar’s Lal Chowk witnessed an unprecedented New Year celebration, breaking the trend of subdued festivities in the region over the past few years.
The Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir, organised a musical extravaganza at the iconic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower area), drawing hundreds of enthusiastic participants.
As the clock struck midnight, the atmosphere at Ghanta Ghar became electric with locals and tourists alike grooving to music, creating a joyous ambiance. The event marked a departure from the usual calmness associated with the area, and attendees expressed their delight at the unique celebration.
Rajeev Shukla, a visitor, shared his excitement, stating, “I have come here to witness the celebration of the New Year. We have never seen this kind of celebration before at Lal Chowk. I am very happy, delighted, and excited.” Taranum, another local resident, noted the significance of the event, highlighting that such celebrations at Lal Chowk were happening for the first time.
Tourists visiting the Kashmir Valley were also pleasantly surprised by the festivities at Srinagar’s Clock Tower area. Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner and CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd., Athar Aamir Khan, lauded the occasion, describing it as a transformation that the city had never seen before.
“This is probably the biggest alibi to the transformation that Srinagar city has witnessed with the implementation of Srinagar Smart City (SMC) projects! Immensely proud of my Srinagar Smart City and SMC team for making this happen! Happy New Year!,” expressed Athar Aamir Khan. On New Year’s Eve, Lal Chowk became a hub of dance and song, welcoming the year 2024 with enthusiasm. Additionally, Gulmarg town in Baramulla district showcased New Year’s Eve celebrations featuring laser shows and dance performances. As the country ushered in the new year, various cities across the nation joined the festivities with lavish celebrations and joyous gatherings.
