Sopore , October 31: In a major healthcare outreach initiative, the Indian Army organised an Eye and Dental Screening Camp at Ningli village of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday, providing essential medical services to more than 460 residents, particularly members of the local fishermen and sand miners communities and people living along the banks of the Jhelum River.
The camp witnessed an encouraging response from the local population, with over 460 residents availing themselves of eye and dental screening services. A dedicated medical team conducted comprehensive examinations, distributed essential medicines and provided guidance on preventive healthcare, oral hygiene and the importance of timely medical consultation.
The initiative was particularly significant for families engaged in fishing and sand mining, as well as residents living along the Jhelum River, who often face difficulties accessing specialised healthcare facilities due to distance and other logistical constraints. By bringing medical services closer to their homes, the Army aimed to bridge this gap and facilitate timely access to essential healthcare.
In addition to medical examinations, the camp focused on raising awareness about common eye and dental ailments, the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare practices. Residents requiring further medical attention were also advised to seek appropriate follow-up treatment.
The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to community welfare and humanitarian outreach across Kashmir. Through such people-centric programmes, the Army continues to contribute towards improving access to essential services and strengthening its engagement with local communities.
The successful organisation of the camp also underscored the importance of sustained civil-military cooperation in addressing grassroots healthcare needs, promoting public health awareness and enhancing the overall well-being of people in remote and underserved areas.
For the residents of Ningali and adjoining villages, the initiative provided an important opportunity to access essential eye and dental care closer to home, reinforcing the spirit of community partnership and public service.
