Baramulla, November 5: In a continued effort to promote community welfare, educational empowerment and inclusive development, the Indian Army, under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo), organised a community outreach programme for the Gujjar-Bakarwal community at Katianwali in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on November 5.
The programme aimed at strengthening ties with the local population while addressing key concerns of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community, particularly those living in remote and far-flung areas. Special emphasis was laid on encouraging children to pursue education, motivating youth to explore skill-development and career opportunities, and engaging with elders and community leaders to discuss local issues and developmental needs.
As part of the initiative, solar lights were distributed among families residing in remote Dhoks to facilitate children’s education and provide better lighting facilities, enabling them to continue their studies even after sunset. The initiative is expected to create a more conducive environment for learning and contribute towards building a brighter future for children from these communities.
Awareness sessions were also conducted on various government welfare schemes, highlighting opportunities and benefits related to healthcare, education and social welfare. The programme provided a platform for meaningful interaction between Army personnel, local residents and community representatives, fostering mutual trust, strengthening civil-military relations and encouraging greater participation in nation-building activities.
More than 223 people from Katianwali and adjoining areas participated in the programme, reflecting the strong community response to the initiative.
Beyond its primary responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s borders, the Indian Army continues to undertake people-centric initiatives aimed at uplifting remote communities and supporting inclusive development.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening the bond between the Army and the local population, conveying the enduring message of “Aman and Awam” (Peace and People).
