5 accused arrested; Grenade, firearm recovered
Srinagar, Apr 4: Punjab Police on Saturday arrested five persons in connection with the blast outside the BJP office in Chandigarh, with investigations revealing links to a Pakistan-based ISI-backed module, officials said.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the case was solved in a joint operation by the Counter-Intelligence wing of Punjab Police and Chandigarh Police.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Balwinder Lal alias Shami, Jasvir Singh alias Jassi, Charanjit Singh alias Channi, Rubal Chauhan, and Mandeep alias Abhijot Sharma.
Police also said two key perpetrators involved in the blast have been identified, while efforts are underway to establish further linkages and apprehend other suspects.
Officials added that the accused had facilitated the movement of explosives, arms, and ammunition through a chain of operatives before the material reached the final executors.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station SSOC SAS Nagar.
The blast occurred on Wednesday evening near the BJP office in Sector 37, Chandigarh. No casualties were reported in the incident. (KNC)
