Srinagar June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a significant two-day visit to Kashmir starting Thursday, marking his first trip to the region since his third consecutive term began.

This visit comes on the heels of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections and is centred around his participation in the International Day of Yoga, observed on June 21, 2024.
The visit is set to begin with the “Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K” event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar on June 20 at 6 PM. During this event, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects across Jammu and Kashmir, and launch the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP).
The “Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K” event aims to highlight the progress in the region and inspire young achievers. Prime Minister Modi will interact with these young achievers and inspect various stalls showcasing local innovations and achievements. A key highlight of the event will be the inauguration and foundation laying of 84 major development projects worth over Rs. 1,500 crore. These projects span road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and higher education infrastructure. Notably, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for the improvement of the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri Section, the development of Industrial Estates, and the construction of six Government Degree Colleges.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will launch the JKCIP, a project valued at Rs. 1,800 crore, which will be implemented in 90 blocks across 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The project aims to benefit 300,000 households, reaching approximately 1.5 million beneficiaries. In addition, over 2,000 appointment letters for government service positions will be distributed, marking a significant step towards empowering the youth and enhancing employment opportunities in the region.
On June 21, the Prime Minister will lead the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at SKICC in Srinagar, beginning at 6:30 AM. This year’s event, themed “Yoga for Self and Society,” underscores the transformative impact of yoga on both individuals and communities. The celebrations aim to unite thousands of participants in the practice of yoga, promoting health and wellness on a global scale. Prime Minister Modi will address the gathering and participate in a Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session.
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually since 2015, with Prime Minister Modi leading events at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s event in Srinagar emphasizes grassroots participation and aims to spread the practice of yoga to rural areas, highlighting its benefits for physical and mental well-being.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kashmir is poised to make a significant impact, focusing on youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and the promotion of health and wellness through yoga. The inauguration of key projects and the launch of new initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to the region’s growth and development.
