Khel Gaon developing into a quality sporting facility in Jammu: Sarmad Hafeez

Lays foundation stone of multi-purpose Indoor Hall


JAMMU, Aug 25: Khel GaonNagrota is developing into a quality rather best sporting facility in Jammu, cattering to the needs of thousands of sportspersons and the youth in general. Apart from a well established Cricket ground, Synthetic Football ground, Volleyball Court, Kabaddi Court, the development work of many other allied projects like standard athletic track and hockey turf is in full swing at this picturesque sports facility, facing of Mata Vaishnodevi ji Shrine in the vicinity of Trikuta Hills.
This was stated by Mr Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports Department J&K while laying foundation stone of a multi-purpose Indoor Hall at Khel Gaon Nagrota.
On the occasion,Sarmad Hafeez was accompanied by Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chibber; Special Secretary YSS, Naresh Kumar; FACO Yasir Arafat; Joint Director YSS Jammu, Suram Chand Sharma; Deputy Director YSS Central, Jitendra Mishra; Chief Sports Officer JKSC, Mohd Hanif; Divisional Sports Officer (J) JKSC, Ashok Singh and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion Sarmad Hafeez said that Government of Jammu and Kashmir was committed to raise sports infrastructural facilities at all levels and promote sports culture in every nook and corner of the Union Territory, adding that Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as one of the best States/UTs accross the country with regard to development of sports infra.
He said projects worth 40 crore are in the offing including Synthetic Athletic Track worth 5 crore, Synthetic Volleyball Court worth 5 crore, Synthetic Hockey Turf (4.85 cr), Cycling Track (1 cr), Synthetic Football Turf (5 cr) and the Multi-purpose Hall worth 7.65 crores
He said this seven crore project Indoor facility when completed will surely lure school going children towards sports activities and keeping them away from drugs menace and other allied social evils to not to derail from the mainstream.
While feeling ecstatic over the huge participation of athletes in sporting activities, Mr Sarmad said that around 70 lakh sportspersons have been part of various sports activities in different sports disciplines at all levels this season.
Mr Sarmad further said that J&K youth possess immense sporting talent and the only need was to nurture the same through a defined process, adding that the time was not far away to see J&K athletes blossom at the national and international scene.
Earlier, Director Youth Services and Sports J&K, Subash Chander Chibber presented a welcome address and highlighted the achievements and activities of the Department.
He said that the officers, officials and the entire field staff of the Department was leaving no stone unturned in enhancing the standard of sports in the Union Territory.
While welcoming the chief guest, Mr Subash Chander said that the laying of foundation stone of Indoor Hall was as part of the celebrations of Sports Week 2023.
It is pertinent to mention here that the salient features of the multi-purpose Indoor facility include a multi-purpose hall, spectators sitting area, two stores under stairs, two rooms with toilets, foot court, office room, two entrance foyers, gents change rooms with toilets and ladies change rooms with toilets at the ground floor, besides a conference hall, gym, VIP sitting area and much more at the first floor.
