Advisories issued for farmers
Srinagar, Apr 24: The India Meteorological Department on Friday forecast partly to generally cloudy weather with spells of light rain and thundershowers across Kashmir over the next few days, while warning of heatwave conditions in parts of the Jammu region.
According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, scattered to many places are likely to receive light rain or thundershowers with gusty winds during the afternoon and evening hours on April 25. The weather is expected to remain largely dry on April 26 and 27, with brief spells of light rain at isolated places.
Temperature data released by the department showed that most parts of Kashmir recorded above-normal day temperatures. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 28.1°C, 6.1 degrees above normal, and a minimum of 13.0°C. Qazigund registered a high of 27.2°C, while Pahalgam settled at 25.0°C and Kupwara at 25.4°C.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 39.3°C, nearly five degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at 22.8°C. Katra recorded 36.0°C, Banihal 29.0°C, and Batote 29.2°C.
The MeT department said hot and dry weather is likely to persist in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Reasi and Udhampur districts over the next four days, with heatwave conditions expected at isolated places on April 24.
The department has advised farmers to suspend farm operations on April 24 and 25 due to the possibility of gusty winds and thundershowers.
It also urged people to avoid heat exposure during peak hours and to stay hydrated by consuming adequate fluids. (KNO)
