Chandigam, August 27: The Lolab Premier League Cricket Tournament got off to an exciting start at the picturesque Chandigam Cricket Ground, bringing together some of the region’s promising cricketing talent for what promises to be a keenly contested sporting event.
Featuring 32 teams from across the region, the tournament assumes greater significance this year as a qualifying event for the prestigious Kilo North Kashmir Cricket League. The top three teams will earn qualification for the larger North Kashmir competition, raising the stakes and offering participating players an opportunity to showcase their talent on a bigger stage.
Introduced last year, the Lolab Premier League has quickly grown into an important fixture on the Kashmir Valley’s sporting calendar. Beyond competitive cricket, the tournament provides young players from Lolab and adjoining areas a structured platform to test their skills against quality opposition and gain wider exposure.
The tournament commenced on 27 August with an emphatic performance by Attihad Cricket Club, Magam, against Sogam XI at Chandigam Cricket Ground. Attihad Cricket Club dominated the opening encounter to register a commanding 115-run victory, becoming the first team to secure a place in the Round of 16.
The comprehensive opening-day result set the tone for the competition, with the knockout format leaving little room for error as teams battle for survival and, ultimately, one of the three coveted qualification berths.
With enthusiastic local support, competitive teams and the scenic surroundings of Chandigam providing a fitting backdrop, the tournament is expected to witness several closely fought encounters in the coming days. More importantly, it provides emerging cricketers from the region a pathway from local competition to the wider North Kashmir stage.
