Srinagar, Feb 21: Amid rising concerns over alleged social media threats targeting the Kashmiri Pandit community, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Saturday issued a strong warning, stating that any attempt to spread fear or disrupt communal harmony would be dealt with firmly.

Addressing the media in Srinagar, Sharma underlined that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has significantly evolved, asserting that the traumatic events of 1989–90 would not be allowed to recur. “The nation today is stronger and more resolute. Any effort to recreate fear, whether online or offline, will face strict legal consequences,” he said.

He emphasized that the central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, remains committed to safeguarding peace and ensuring the security of all communities in the Union Territory.

According to Sharma, security and intelligence agencies have intensified monitoring of digital platforms to track individuals or groups attempting to incite panic or communal discord. He cautioned against the circulation of misinformation and urged citizens to remain vigilant and responsible in their online behavior.

“The government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism, radicalism, and any activity that threatens social stability,” he said, adding that recent years have seen strengthened security frameworks and renewed efforts toward development and reconciliation.

Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, Sharma called upon political leaders, civil society, and the youth to foster unity and resist divisive narratives. He reiterated that the protection, dignity, and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits remain a priority.

His remarks come at a time of heightened sensitivity following reports of online posts allegedly aimed at intimidating members of the minority community, triggering demands for swift and strict action.
