Mathura, July 29 – More than one crore fifty lakh devotees performed circumambulation of Govardhan Hills as the yearly Mudiya Poono (Purnima) fair is set to conclude today.
Highlighting the importance of the fair, G K Purohit Sewayat at the Danghati temple told that the yearly festival is now nearly 470 years old. This fair commemorates Sanatan Goswami, a disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and devotee of Girraj maharaj, who died on the full-moon day (Poornima).
“As per rituals, his followers shave their heads on Monday, since yesterday was Tuesday. They are performing a circumambulation of Govardhan Hills amid the beating of Dhol and Kirtan,” he added. Marking the end of the fair.
People visit from across India. They came here and performed Mahaabhishek of Girraj Ji Maharaj and performed circumambulation of Govardhan Hills.
“Govardhan Hills, Yamuna River and the soil of this Brijbhoomi are believed to be only three remembrances of Lord Krishna’s time that exist today,” Pawan Kaushik Sewayat at Sri Danghati temple Govardhan said.
Mathura MP Hema Malini shared a video in which she was requesting everyone to maintain cleanliness in the city. “Brij teerth Vikas Parishad and District Administration have initiated a drive to clean the sacred land where our beloved Lord Krishna and Radha Rani did many Leelas.
“We are seeking the public’s participation,” I request everyone not to litter and not let others litter. It is our duty to protect the purity of Brij raj (soil), which was divinely touched by Radha Krishna himself, she added.
SSP Shlok Kumar told that Digital attendance of force, installation of canopies to ensure availability of force all the time and a three-shift duty at all pressure points were introduced this time to enhance security of the devotees, in addition to other measures.
“We got good feedback from the devotees,” he added. We have done elaborate security arrangements for today in the city since many people are expected to visit their Guru (Spiritual guide).
More than one crore fifty lakhs visitors were recorded in the seven-day fair. “Round-the-clock emergency services were available during the fair,” SP Rural Suresh Chandra Rawat said. A detailed traffic plan was also in place which ensured smooth traffic movement during the fair, he added.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma performed a circumambulation of Govardhan hills yesterday. The Chief Minister began the circumambulation by offering prayers at Poonchri ka Lauta temple at Poonchari. He also distributed Prashad and offered water to devotees.
Bhajan Lal Sharma said that he felt fortunate to get blessings from Girraj Ji Maharaj. He wished for the well-being of India and the people of Brij Bhumi. He was accompanied by State Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedam.
