Ayushmann Khurrana’s Jalna Visit Highlights the Message of Child Safety
Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Renowned actor and UNICEF India National Ambassador Ayushmann Khurrana visited Jalna in Maharashtra, where he met children and families affected by seasonal migration and delivered a strong message about ensuring a safe and secure childhood. Under UNICEF-supported kinship and community care programmes, children are being supported within family and community settings, with a focus on their education, health, nutrition and emotional well-being.
Khurrana said, “No child should have to lose their childhood because of their circumstances. Kinship care is not just about providing a safe home; it also preserves relationships, restores confidence and offers hope for a better future.” He interacted with young volunteers, Balmitras (child-friendly community workers), adolescent girls and families to understand the changes taking place at the grassroots level.
Citing the example of 18-year-old Shilpa, he said, “Girls can fulfil their dreams when children grow up in an educated, healthy and safe environment.”
UNICEF Acting Representative Jesper Moller said, “Violence against children can be prevented. We need to strengthen systems that identify risks and connect families with the services they need.”
During 2024–25, more than 5,800 children in Jalna remained under kinship care. The initiative is helping children stay connected to education while also reducing risks such as child labour and child marriage.
