Srinagar, June 29: With the persistent scorching heat, the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has recorded nearly 50 percent deficient rainfall in the ongoing month—June, while the weatherman here has predicted a week-long wet spell here.
According to the details available with The Morning Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir in general has recorded 43 per cent defiant rainfall from June 01, 2024 till June 26, 2024.
However, some of the areas including Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri and Samba have recorded large deficient rainfall of 60 to 99 percent.
Anantnag has however, recorded a large excess rainfall of 147 percent during the period while Baramulla has recorded excess rainfall of 29 percent during the period.
Pertinently, the weatherman has predicted a week-long wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that light to moderate rains are expected in the Union Territory till July 05, 2024.
Light to moderate rains are expected at many places in Jammu division till June 30 while there is also a possibility of light rains at few places in Kashmir as well.
Director Meteorological department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad said that the intensity of rainfall will gradually increase from July 02 to July 05. “There is a possibility of intermittent light to moderate rainfall at many places while the possibility of heavy showers at few places for a brief period cannot be ruled out from July 02 to July 05,” he added.
Moreover, he said that the landslides and mudslides are expected at vulnerable places while a few places may experience moderate thunderstorm and lightning as well during the period.
