SASB urges Amarnath Pilgrims: Prioritize Safety Measures

Srinagar May 3: The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has advised intending pilgrims to take all necessary safety measures as the Amarnath Yatra is set to begin from June 29.
The SASB recently announced the schedule for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. According to the announcement, this sacred Amarnath Yatra will span from June 29 to August 19, 2024

At the same time, Yatris have been advised to take all necessary measures before going for the Yatra.
The SASB has asked intending pilgrims to prepare for the Yatra by achieving a high level of physical fitness.
“Do prepare for the Yatra by achieving Physical Fitness – it is advisable to start a preparatory morning/evening walk, about 4-5 km per day, at least a month prior to the Yatra. Start deep breathing exercise and Yoga, particularly pranayam for improving oxygen efficiency of the body,” the SASB said.
They have asked intending pilgrims to drink lots of water to combat dehydration and headaches–about 5 litres of fluid per day.
“Do consume plenty of carbohydrates to reduce fatigue and prevent low blood sugar levels. Do descend immediately to a lower elevation, if you start having altitude illness symptoms. In case of any signs of High Altitude Sickness or any other discomfort, immediately contact the nearest medical facility located at every 2 kms,” the SASB states.
Intending Yatris have been advised don’t drink alcohol, caffeinated drinks, or smoke.
“Don’t accept everything a sick Yatri says since his/ her judgment is impaired. Don’t ignore the symptoms of high altitude illness,” they advised.
To ensure the safety of Yatris, authorities have decided to implement various measures.
A senior official said that a hassle-free pilgrimage is the government’s top priority.
“Officials have been instructed to provide best-in-class healthcare and other essential facilities to all visiting devotees and service providers,” the official stated.
Stringent security measures, including the tagging of vehicles and Yatris with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), will also be enforced.
“This will aid in tracking the precise location of the vehicles, as the CRPF and other forces, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, will escort the Yatris to the base camp from where the trek to the holy shrine commences,” the official added.
The government has decided to mark disaster-prone areas along the route to the Holy Cave and prohibit the construction of establishments such as tents and shops in those areas for the safety of people.
