Srinagar, Apr 16: A sudden spell of intense winds swept across parts of the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction in several localities of Srinagar and Pampore, while triggering fear among residents. In Srinagar’s Nagbal Dara area, powerful gusts tore through residential neighborhoods, ripping off rooftops and damaging structures. Similar scenes were reported from Pampore, where numerous houses sustained partial damage as the winds intensified without warning.Eyewitnesses described moments of chaos as tin sheets, wooden panels, and loose construction material were seen flying through the air.“It all happened within minutes. The wind was so strong that we couldn’t even step outside. Our roof was blown away before we realized what was happening,” said a resident of Nagbal Dara.Local residents in Pampore echoed similar concerns, calling the sudden weather shift “terrifying” and “unlike anything in recent weeks.”“We heard loud banging noises and then saw parts of our neighbor’s house collapse. Thankfully, everyone managed to get to safety in time,” said a Pampore local.Officials from the administration confirmed that assessment teams have been deployed to evaluate the extent of the damage. While property loss has been reported in multiple areas, authorities stated that no major injuries or fatalities have been recorded so far.“Our teams are on the ground conducting a detailed survey. Immediate assistance will be provided to affected families as per norms,” an official said. The Meteorological Department has indicated that the region may continue to witness unstable weather conditions over the coming days. A shift toward cloudier skies is expected beginning April 17, with chances of light rainfall and isolated thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir.Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, particularly in areas with weak infrastructure, and to avoid venturing outdoors during sudden windstorms. As the Valley braces for more weather fluctuations, emergency services remain on standby to respond to any further incidents.
