Srinagar, Aug 1: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Thursday said that fencing of bridges is not a long term solution for the suicide incidents, but strengthening psychological and family values.

The fencing of bridges is a temporary solution, Bidhuri said while talking to the reporters here in Srinagar. He was reacting to the suicide incidents in Srinagar as several people have jumped into the river Jhelum from different bridges.
In a reply to a question, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir has stated that the plans to ensure availability of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and installation of CCTV cameras will be looked into.
“The people have a genuine query and the issues will be looked into to thwart any possible suicide attempts at the hotspots here,” he said.
Furthermore, the divisional commissioner added that the situation in the coaching centres is being monitored in wake of the recent incident in Delhi to ensure such incidents will not take place here.
Nonetheless, he said that there is a more concern about the fire related incidents, adding that the administration is ensuring that there is no loophole in this regard to prevent the fire incidents here in the coaching centres.
Pertinently, in order to prevent attempts of suicide incidents in district, the Srinagar administration has started the works for fencing of sides of various major bridges in the City.
Speaking in this regard, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat said that the process for fencing the sides of various bridges in Srinagar City has been started to save precious human lives.
The DC said DPR regarding fencing has been formulated and Rs 19 lakh each has been earmarked for fencing the sides of Nawa Kadal and Fateh Kadal bridges.
Similarly, DPR of Rs 9 lakh has been framed for Gow Kadal Bridge and Rs 29 lakh for Safakadal Bridge.
While fencing the sides of Noor Jahan Bridge over river Jhelum at Qamarwari would be completed at a cost of Rs 11 lakh to avoid any further mishap or any suicide incident.
