Calls for Intensified Joint Enforcement, Citizen-Centric Online Services and Greater Winter Road Safety
KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 29: The Transport Commissioner today visited District Kulgam and chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the functioning and delivery of Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) services in the southern districts of Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian.
The meeting focused on strengthening enforcement, improving citizen service delivery, enhancing road safety and ensuring greater coordination among the field formations of the Transport Department and Traffic Police.
During the meeting, the Transport Commissioner held detailed deliberations with Liaqat Chaudhary
SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir and stressed the need for intensified and coordinated enforcement drives by the Traffic Police and Transport Department. He directed the concerned officers to undertake effective joint enforcement against traffic violations, regulate traffic movement on critical routes and take proactive measures to reduce road accidents.
The Transport Commissioner also reviewed the performance of various online and faceless transport services. Interacting with media persons, he highlighted that auto-approval mechanisms have now been integrated into several transport services, enabling citizens to avail themselves of important departmental services without visiting transport offices physically.
He said that the Department is continuously working towards making transport services more accessible, transparent, efficient and citizen-centric, with technology being leveraged to reduce the need for physical visits to government offices.
In view of the approaching winter and the possibility of sub-zero temperatures and slippery road conditions, the Transport Commissioner made an earnest appeal to parents and motorists to exercise extra caution while driving during winter. He advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly equipped for winter conditions, particularly by checking tyres, anti-skid arrangements and defogging systems, before undertaking journeys.
Emphasizing the importance of preventive road-safety measures, he urged motorists to avoid unnecessary risks during adverse weather conditions and to strictly follow traffic advisories to prevent accidents caused by slippery roads and poor visibility.
The Transport Commissioner further directed field officers to ensure prompt delivery of citizen services and a visible presence on the ground, particularly on important traffic corridors, so that commuters receive timely assistance and grievances are addressed effectively.
He called for continued coordination among all concerned agencies to strengthen enforcement, improve public service delivery and create a safer and more efficient road-transport environment across the southern districts. Meeting was attended by Mohammad Shafait, ARTO Pulwama , Nasir Ahmed ARTO Kulgam, Arif Parvaiz Shah ARTO Shopian along with other officials.
