Residents of Ward No. 13 in Wanipora, a key area of Ganderbal town, have expressed strong resentment over the lack of sanitation services, alleging that they have been left to manage cleanliness on their own despite paying monthly municipal Council fees.
Locals said that no sweeper has visited the area for the past 40 days, forcing residents to carry out cleaning activities themselves. “We are regularly paying sanitation fees, yet there is no service. We are compelled to clean our own surroundings,” said a local resident, highlighting the growing frustration among the community.
The situation is further aggravated by the irregular movement of the garbage collection vehicle, which, according to residents, arrives only once a week. Authorities had earlier assured that the garbage vehicle would visit at least twice a week, but that commitment has not been fulfilled, they alleged.
Residents termed the situation as “unfair treatment,” especially considering that the office of the Municipal Council Ganderbal is located within Wanipora itself, making the neglect more concerning. They stated that Wanipora serves as a prominent face of Ganderbal town, yet basic sanitation services remain ignored.
The locals have urged the authorities to immediately deploy sanitation staff and ensure regular garbage collection.
Appealing to the DC Ganderbal, residents have urged immediate intervention to restore proper sanitation services, deploy sweepers, and ensure regular garbage collection.
