Wildlife Officials Rescue Trapped Black Bear in Pampore Village

Pampore, September 23: In a swift and successful operation, wildlife officials rescued a black bear that had fallen into a trench in the Shar Shali area of Wildlife Range Khrew, Pampore, on Tuesday.

The incident came to light after local residents raised an alarm about the animal trapped in a water reservoir on private land at Khudalove, Shar Shali area of Pampore Tehsil. Acting promptly, a rescue control room Khrew team rushed to the spot and initiated the operation.

Officials told Morning Kashmir that tranquilisers and nets were used to safely extract the bear from the reservoir, ensuring no harm was caused to the animal. Following the rescue, the bear was released back into its natural habitat.

The Wildlife Department appreciated the timely cooperation of local residents, whose quick reporting made the rescue possible. Officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding wildlife and ensuring harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.

Three people, including two women, sustained critical injuries last week after being attacked by a black bear in Khrew village of Pampore Tehsil.

According to reports received by Morning Kashmir, the incident took place when the victims were working in their fields at Zantrag, Khrew. Suddenly, a black bear emerged from the nearby forest area and attacked them, leaving all three seriously injured.

The injured were later shifted to SMHS hospital.
