Srinagar, August 22, 2026: Mohammad Faheem Reshi, Senior Independent Political Leader, Contested Candidate from 25-Eidgah Constituency, Chairman Greater Shah-re-Khaas, and Senior Independent Youth Leader of Shah-re-Khaas, today strongly criticized the reported 6.83% increase in power tariffs from September, calling it another financial burden on the common people of Jammu & Kashmir.
He said the government came to power making major promises, including 200 units of free electricity, but instead of providing meaningful relief, consumers are now being confronted with higher electricity bills.
«“From promises of 200 units of free electricity to a 6.83% tariff hike, the people of J&K are being made to pay the price. This is not the relief people were promised. The government’s report card is becoming clearer—less relief, more burden on ordinary households.”»
Reshi questioned the government’s priorities and said that after nearly two years in office, the administration should be concentrating on reducing the hardships faced by ordinary families, traders, workers and economically weaker sections rather than adding to their financial burden.
He demanded that the government immediately reconsider the tariff hike, fulfil its commitment regarding free electricity and introduce genuine relief measures for consumers, particularly poor and economically vulnerable families.
«“People do not need slogans or political promises; they need delivery, accountability and affordable electricity. The government must listen to the voice of ordinary consumers and act before this additional burden becomes unbearable.”»
Mohammad Faheem Reshi further said that affordable electricity is not a luxury but an essential requirement for every household, and the government must ensure that its policies protect the interests of the common people rather than increasing their economic pressure.
