SRINAGAR, OCT 18: The government on Wednesday appointed Ashish Kumar Mishra (IPS) as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Srinagar, the summer capital of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, replacing Rakesh Balwal who has been repatriated to his parent cadre.

According to an order, Rakesh Balwal, who was repatriated to Manipur cadre recently, has been formally relieved as SSP Srinagar and replaced by Ashish Kumar Mishra.

“In pursuance of the approval of Competent Authority for premature repatriation of Shri Rakesh Balwal, IPS (MA: 2012) from AGMUT-cadre to his parent cadre i.e Manipur cadre, the officer is relieved from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, to enable him to join his parent cadre,” the order reads .

“In the interest of the administration the transfers and postings are hereby ordered with immediate effect; i) Shri Ashish Kumar Mishra, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, is transferred and posted as Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar ii) Shri G.V Sandeep Chakravarthy is transferred and posted as Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, vice Shri Ashish Kumar Mishra,” it adds.

Ashish Misra, a distinguished IPS officer with a reputation for his exceptional track record in maintaining law and order, will likely join the office in a day or two and will be welcomed with a traditional guard of honour at the office.

Ashish Misra brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served in several important positions.

Outgoing SSP Rakesh Balwal, who has served in Srinagar for a significant period, will be taking over as the new police chief in the northeastern state of Manipur.

Balwal is known for his pivotal role in managing the law and order situation during some challenging times in the Kashmir Valley.

Balwal’s transfer to Manipur is seen as a strategic move by the government to address security concerns in the northeastern state, which has faced its own unique set of challenges, including insurgency and ethnic tensions.

A top government official said that the administrative reshuffle reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the security and stability of these regions and aims to harness the expertise of officers like Mishra and Balwal in different parts of the country.

“It is expected that under the leadership of Ashish Mishra, the police force in Srinagar will continue its efforts to maintain peace and security in the region, ” said the official.

Meanwhile, in another order, the government relieved Imtiaz Ismail Parray who has been appointed as DIV in Sashastra Seema Bal.

“Consequent upon the approval of the Competent Authority for appointment of Shri Imtiaz Ismail Parray, IPS (AGMUT: 2009), DIG (Training) Police Headquarters, as Deputy Inspector General in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), on deputation basis, for a period of five years from the date of the assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the Officer is relieved from the Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir, to enable him to take up the new assignment at the Centre,” the order reads. “It is further ordered that Ms. Sarah Rizvi, IPS (AGMUT:2008), DIG IR, Jammu, shall hold the charge of the post of DIG (Training) Police Headquarters, in addition to her own duties, till further orders.”
