PAMPORE, September 08: An Inter-Ministerial Central Team, deputed by the Government of India, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, and other senior officials, conducted an extensive field visit to assess damage the flood-affected areas of Pulwama district on Monday.
The team visited different locations, including Drangbal Pampore and Khadermoh Kakapora areas Pulwama district, to evaluate the damage caused by the recent flash floods.
The team also interacted with the district administration.
After the field inspections, a comprehensive review meeting was held at Pulwama, where Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, made a detailed presentation on damage to crops, community assets and infrastructure
The government has constituted Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir to assess the damage caused by heavy rainfall, floods, flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides.
The IMCTs would make on-the-spot assessment of the situation and relief works being carried out by the state, UT governments.
Speaking to Morning Kashmir, Idara Auqaf Islamia Trust Pampore President Mohammad Maqbool Shah said that we are happy that at least the beginning has been made and someone has listened to our voice. The Central Team came to Pampore, and we welcomed them. They carried out an on-spot assessment of the river bunds, and we also presented our demands. Here, there is a 90-degree angle where maximum water pressure occurs, especially during floods. The team took note of this issue as well as the damage to the river bunds along the roadside. I hope that soon a DPR (Detailed Project Report) will be prepared, which will help us deal effectively with such flood situations.
He said the basic thing is that the first priority is flood protection, and once flood protection is in place, naturally the other issues will also be resolved. Because when flood protection is implemented, bunds will be raised and strengthened, and this will automatically solve the problem of road damage that occurs during floods. I hope that it will be an inclusive project that will cover both the road and the river bund.
