District Election Office Kathua hosts special SVEEP Nukkad Natak in Jasrota, Hiranagar ACs

KATHUA, SEPTEMBER 26: As part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness for the upcoming assembly elections, the District SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) Cell of District Election Centre Kathua conducted a series of Nukkad Nataks in Jasrota and Hiranagar Assembly constituencies.

The renowned NATRANG group of Jammu, known for its impactful and socially relevant performances, was invited to stage these Nukkad Nataks. The vibrant and captivating performances of the artists attracted large crowds at both the venues.

The first Nukkad Natak was held at Government Higher Secondary School Budhi in Jasrota Assembly Constituency. The school’s open grounds provided a platform to the artists to spread the message about the power of voting, targeting particularly first-time voters and the general community members.

Through interactive and humorous skits, the NATRANG artists shed light on the significance of each vote in shaping a strong democratic process.

The second Nukkad Natak took place in the bustling Main Bazaar area of Hiranagar Assembly Constituency. The performance attracted a diverse audience, ranging from students and local business owners to daily commuters and shopkeepers. The Nukkad Natak at Hiranagar focused on debunking myths about voting and explaining the voting process, encouraging voters to make their voices heard by participating in the democratic exercise.

The audience praised the efforts of the SVEEP Cell and the NATRANG group, emphasizing the role of such creative endeavors in spreading the message of electoral participation. “These street plays are not just performances but are tools to educate and engage the electorate”, said a local youngster in Hiranagar.

The Nukkad Nataks also incorporated messages of ethical voting, highlighting the dangers of malpractices such as vote-buying and coercion. Artists interacted with the audience post-performance, encouraging them to spread the message to their families and friends and explaining the importance of casting an informed vote.

District Nodal Officer Neeraj Bhargav said “The District SVEEP Cell has lined up several more such initiatives in the coming days as the elections draw closer. These initiatives are a part of the larger mandate to make the election process inclusive and ensure that no eligible voter is left behind”.

“The overwhelming response from the public in both Jasrota and Hiranagar shows that people are ready to be part of the change, and we are hopeful that this enthusiasm will translate into higher voter turnout in the upcoming elections” added District Nodal Officer, Neeraj Bhargav.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by AC Nodal Officer SVEEP, Mangal Singh at Jasrota and AC Nodal Officer SVEEP Priya Lakshmi at Hiranagar and reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring maximum voter participation in the region. ‎
