SRINAGAR, NOV 25 : A first-of-its-kind GIS exchange meetup with the theme “Exploring start-up opportunities in GIS” was held at Nundreshi Hall SKUAST-K, which was organized by SKIIE centre, SKUAST-K in collaboration with GeoInfinity India.
The event saw the participation of budding entrepreneurs, Students, Scholars, Industry experts and other stakeholders. The welcome address was given by Mr. Naveed Hamid, CEO of SKIIE centre, followed by the release of the book “Unlocking Opportunities: A brief guide to start-up success in GIS. A brief about the program was given by Mr. Muzaffar Ahmad Malla, Co-founder of GeoInfinity India.
Among the guest speakers at the occasion Mr. Haroon. R. Naik, Director Planning and Monitoring SKUAST-K stressed upon building an entrepreneurial spirit in the present generation, Mr. Humayun Rashid, Scientist JKDEERS spoke about the geospatial data available on JKSSDI for the end users of the UT, Mrs, Girija Subramanian, CMD, AIC of India, spoke about the application of geospatial technology in crop insurance followed by words of wisdom by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Honourable VC of SKUAST-K and Vote of Thanks by Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, OSD to VC SKUAST-K.
The inaugural was followed by technical sessions from Mr. Baba Abid, co-founder and R&D lead of GeoInfinity India, who enlightened the audience about Start-up opportunities in GIS and the power of using location intelligence for informed decision-making. The event ended with a session from Mr. Shabir A Bangroo, Asst. Prof. Soil Science SKUAST-K, who deliberated about the application of GIS in Agriculture and allied sectors. The event was highly appreciated by the attendees and experts alike, highlighting the need for such events for building a vibrant start-up landscape in the region.
