Flood damages: Deal with proactive approach

With incessant rains triggering landslides in Jammu areas which led to the loss of lives and properties, the administration must deal with the aftermath situation by adopting a proactive approach as it has to assess and process the relief cases for damages caused due to incessant rains and flash floods. Excessive landslides caused whopping losses to houses, roads, public infrastructure and animal stock, there is a need for immediate restoration of civil supplies and meeting the shortage of essential commodities like LPG, kerosene, household articles and power and clean drinking water. The administration must unfold immediate crash measures so as to restore power, drinking water, ration supplies and spur up human and animal healthcare facilities in the area to mitigate the miseries and hardships of the people. The cases of the locals which have been projected by PRIs regarding house collapses due to landslides also need dire attention. The relief cases under SDRF must be immediately processed. The Jal Shakti department must repair the damaged infrastructure to ensure that people do not face issues with drinking water. Similarly, the Rural Development Department and Irrigation & Flood Control Department should assess the situation and start protection works to prevent further damage. The people’s basic issues have to be the priority of the administration and there should be no delay in this regard.
