Srinagar, Apr 18: The Haj pilgrimage from Jammu and Kashmir commenced on Saturday with the departure of the first batch of 431 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, officials said.The group, consisting of 230 men and 201 women, left Srinagar in three flights amid comprehensive logistical arrangements. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was present at the airport to see off the pilgrims.Officials said elaborate preparations were made at the Haj House in Bemina to facilitate a smooth departure. “All required arrangements, including transportation, baggage handling, and documentation, have been put in place to ensure that pilgrims face no difficulty,” an official associated with the process said.The Haj House premises witnessed heavy footfall since early morning as hundreds of family members gathered to bid farewell to their loved ones. The atmosphere was marked by emotional scenes, prayers, and well-wishes.Another official overseeing operations highlighted the coordination efforts. “We have deployed dedicated teams to manage each stage of the journey. Our priority is to ensure seamless coordination and provide timely assistance to all pilgrims,” the official said.Authorities further stated that special counters and support staff were stationed both at the Haj House and the airport to streamline procedures. “Every aspect, from entry to boarding, is being closely monitored to avoid delays and inconvenience,” an official added.Several pilgrims expressed gratitude and excitement before departure. “It is a lifelong dream coming true. I feel blessed to have this opportunity and pray for peace and well-being for everyone back home,” said one pilgrim.A woman pilgrim, travelling for the first time, said, “There are mixed emotions—happiness and nervousness—but above all, there is faith. We are thankful for the arrangements made for us.”Another pilgrim highlighted the smooth process, saying, “Everything has been well-organised. From the Haj House to the airport, we received proper guidance and assistance.”A total of 4,764 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to undertake the Haj pilgrimage this year, with subsequent batches set to depart over the coming days.Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining smooth arrangements throughout the process. “We are maintaining continuous supervision and ensuring that all facilities remain accessible and efficient for the pilgrims,” they said.
