A total of 138 individuals, including 87 from Shopian and 51 from Zainapora, had opted for the Home Voting option by submitting Form-12D through their respective AROs. To facilitate this process, the District Election Office deployed 12 polling teams to visit the homes of these voters, most of whom were either aged above 85 or specially-abled.
By the end of the two-day exercise, all votes were successfully cast, achieving a 100% polling rate. On the first day, 128 ballots were collected, while the remaining 10 votes were registered today.
This initiative, first introduced by the Election Commission of India during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, was again implemented for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024, offering an alternative method for those unable to physically visit polling stations on Election Day.
Home voters praised the district administration and the Election Commission for making it possible for them to participate in the electoral process despite their physical limitations. Many also encouraged their fellow citizens to ensure their participation in the upcoming polling, highlighting the importance of their vote.
This effort reflects the ongoing commitment to making elections accessible and inclusive for all citizens.
