Indian Army Conducts Timely Medical Evacuation Amid Heavy Snowfall in Vilgam

Handwara, 23 Jan 2026: Upholding its finest traditions, the Indian Army braved heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions to successfully carry out a timely medical evacuation in the Vilgam area of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The operation was conducted by the Indian Army’s Vilgam Battalion, which evacuated two critically ill patients from the remote village of Vilgam area to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara. The evacuees included a 20-year-old pregnant woman and a 58-year-old woman suffering from an ischemic stroke.

Despite treacherous terrain and severe weather, the swift and coordinated response of Army personnel ensured that both patients received urgent and life-saving medical care.
Local residents widely appreciated the effort and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army for its dedication, professionalism, and continued humanitarian service in difficult conditions.
