J&K Education Deptt refutes claims of ‘Objectionable’ content in textbooks

Srinagar, Apr 27: Amid a controversy over alleged ‘objectionable’ content in a textbook, the School Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has issued a clarification, stating that no such book has been prescribed or developed by the board.
The row erupted after a purported image from a book containing objectionable content began circulating on social media platforms.
In response, the J&K School Education Department promptly addressed the issue, clarifying that the contentious content was not part of any textbook prescribed or developed by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) or the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
“There is some objectionable content from a book being circulated on social media. As verified, from the textbooks prescribed and developed by JKBOSE, there is no such content in JKBOSE textbooks,” the department stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The department further clarified that NCERT had not developed any book containing such content, nor had it been prescribed in any school in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are verifying the source of this video so that the law enforcement authorities can take strict action,” the department added, indicating that an investigation is underway to identify the origin of the contentious material.
The Budgam police also shared the department’s post, emphasizing the clarification provided by the education authorities.
The swift response from the J&K School Education Department aims to quell any concerns among parents and the general public regarding the alleged objectionable content and reassure them about the integrity of the prescribed textbooks.
