‘1.27 crore tourists have visited JK this year, Govt committed to make JK terror-free’, says LG

Srinagar, Aug 15: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unfurled the National Flag in Srinagar on the country’s 77th Independence Day on Tuesday.

Sinha inspected the parade and took a salute at an impressive march past of the contingents comprising of J&K Police, Security forces, school students, besides Brass & Pipe bands of J&K Police and the BSF.

He also paid tributes to the freedom fighters and brave hearts of police, army and CAPFs.

Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the government is committed to make JK a terror-free abode.

“Our government is committed to making J&K a terror-free region. Terror supported across the border acted as a cancer for society. Our security forces are working tirelessly to push the last nail in the coffin of terror and its ecosystem,” he said.

LG said that this year, 1.27 crore tourists including foreigners have visited Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the successful G-20 Summit held in Srinagar this year has helped to give J&K a global push and the participants of 27 countries in the G-20 Tourism Working Group have left with a positive message.

Lauding the role of security forces for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in J&K, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the mountains of J&K are witness to the priceless sacrifices of forces personnel who laid down their lives for the nation’s integrity and sovereignty.

“On the eve of 77th Independence Day celebrations, I salute the martyrs and want to assure their families that the entire J&K and the nation stands with them. You will not be let down in any way,” LG Sinha said.

LG Sinha further said, “Before three years I had assured people of J&K from this place that I will fulfill each and every commitment that paves the way to peaceful Jammu and Kashmir. Today we have achieved a lot of success and more in this regard needs to be done in the coming times.”

He said the overwhelming participation of citizens in the G-20 Summit, Shri Amarnathji Yatra  this year after three decades, testify the beginning of a new era of peace and tranquillity for Jammu and Kashmir.

Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir is emerging as a role model in the country for digital governance with a focus on transparency, accountability and a citizen-centric approach to deliver public services.

The Lieutenant Governor said the talented youth of Jammu and Kashmir are excelling at national and international levels.

He maintained that in order to provide facilities to the talented sports persons, 702 infrastructure projects relating to sports facilities have been completed and indoor sports halls are being constructed in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sinha added that his Administration is trying to see a smile on the face of every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir and said that his Administration is committed to make Jammu and Kashmir of “peace, prosperity and development all around”.

On this auspicious occasion, I give my best wishes to our citizens. This pious day is about remembering, dedication and resolution for all the Indian citizens. I pay homage to freedom fighters, respected ancestors, and to those who gave their lives for freedom. Whenever the medal tally is published there’s a long list of our brave Jammu and Kashmir police. He said after 34 years of gap Muharram processions were allowed to pass through traditional routes which is an apparent sign of normalcy and return of peace in J&K. “Shia mourners during the Muharram procession marched through traditional routes without any fear. This happened after a gap of 34 years. Besides reopening of cinemas and restoration of theaters are the examples that peace has started to return to J&K”.
