LS polls: From bottom to top, INDI Alliance parties inch closer for joint fight

SRINAGAR, MAR 01: While the parliamentary elections are set to be held in the next few months, the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir are keeping the doors open for a joint fight as the talks are underway to break the ice over the possibility of a pre-poll alliance.

Sources privy to the development informed Morning Kashmir that the discussion is ongoing and there has been no conclusive decision yet as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reluctant to surrender the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat.

The two parties including the National Conference (NC) and PDP are keen to get a share in Kashmir parliamentary seats while Congress is eyeing to field their own candidates from two seats of the Jammu division with the support of NC and PDP, they informed.

If sources are to be believed, NC wants to contest from all the seats of the Kashmir division, but PDP is rigid to its stand to field its candidate, Mehbooba Mufti from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat.

They said Congress is willing to surrender all three seats from Kashmir and is ready to support its allies—NC and PDP, who are the part of INDI alliance, a conglomerate formed at the national level by the opposition political parties to go for a joint fight in the upcoming parliamentary polls.

The leaders from all three political parties have so far remained tight-lipped about the discussions going on between them for the possible pre-poll alliance.

NC spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar, speaking to Morning Kashmir, said the decision has not been made yet, but the talks are going on.

“The decision about the seat sharing will be taken after the upcoming meeting of the INDIA alliance for which the party Vice President Omar Abdullah has left for New Delhi,” he said.

“The decision is expected to be made public by March 7,” Dar said, adding that he cannot comment on the discussions or reports that are out in the public domain.

Pertinently, the political developments taking place at the low level are seen as one among the developments about the possible pre-poll alliance.

Nazir Ahmad, Chairman of District Development Council (DDC) Budgam faced a no-confidence motion and those who passed it belonged to NC and PDP. The political pundits believe that the no-confidence motion by the twin party members is part of the possible alliance and shows that a joint fight in the upcoming polls is in offing.
