Markets abuzz as shoppers flock ahead of Eid-ul-Adha

Srinagar, Jun 14: Just two days ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha, the markets start witnessing the hustle and bustle for the first time in more than a week, giving hope to the traders of good business.
Majority of the markets wore a deserted look in the last over a week as the shopkeepers in the busiest Lal Chowk and other areas complained of low rush of the shoppers ahead of the Eid, which was quite unusual.

Unlike this year, the people used to throng the markets almost a week before the Eid to buy essentials for the festival.
But, as per the shopkeepers, the rush of shoppers was all-time low till yesterday. “The flow has increased only today as the shoppers started thronging the markets from today,” Sameer Ahmad, a Readymade garment shop owner, told Morning Kashmir.
However, he said that the traders were quite apprehensive about the prevalent situation much before these days. “We have not procured much of the garments on the Eid eve. Most of the shopkeepers here still have placed jackets outside the shops for the buyers,” he said.
Moreover, the situation was similar in other markets in downtown areas where a huge rush of shoppers was witnessed throughout the day.
“The rush of shoppers has gained pace from today. We hardly got any customers till yesterday, but from today, the people have started buying the bakery products from here,” a baker from Habba Kadal locality said.
The roads leading to the markets also witnessed traffic congestion today, giving tough times to the commuters and shoppers.
Pertinently, the Traffic Police department has deployed additional cops on the roads ahead of Eid to ensure smooth passage to commuters and shoppers.
