Shopian, Oct 1 – The National Media Group Shopian convened a significant meeting today, during which several key decisions were taken to strengthen the organization and streamline its activities in the district. The meeting was attended by a large number of working journalists, senior media persons, and other stakeholders associated with the group.
After threadbare discussions on various issues concerning the welfare of media professionals and the future course of action, the house unanimously decided to appoint Irshad Malik, senior journalist from News18, as the interim president of the National Media Group Shopian. His vast experience and long-standing contribution in the field of journalism were highlighted as strong reasons for his selection.
Similarly, the group also chose Raja Zaid from Kashmir News Service (KNS) as the official spokesperson of the body. Members expressed confidence that his communication skills and proactive role in the media industry will help in projecting the voice of journalists from Shopian at different forums.
During the meeting, members emphasized the importance of unity among journalists and the need to work collectively for ensuring professional ethics, safeguarding press freedom, and addressing issues faced by media personnel at local as well as higher levels.
The interim body will remain functional until the formal election process is initiated. Members of the group agreed that the elections for a full-term executive body will be conducted soon in a transparent and democratic manner, where every journalist associated with the National Media Group Shopian will be given an opportunity to participate.
The meeting was attended by the senior journalists like, Aijaz Dar of Aaj tak,Shah Irshad of Gulistan news, Sheikh Hilal of Kashmir Life, Umar Malik of News X, Muzamil Yaqoob of Amar Ujala, Bashrat Gandroo of JK Media,Mir irfan of The Kashmiriyat and others joined the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, senior members congratulated the newly appointed interim president and spokesperson while also appealing to all journalists to extend full cooperation in strengthening the institution.
